DRAGONFLY WONDER MAKES DRAGONFLY DREAMS! - part 1

IN COLLABORATIONS WITH:

Hey everyone!

I’m absolutely "buzzing" to share an incredible project that I've been working on!

Back in February, I had the opportunity to attend my very first QuiltCon in Raleigh, NC. It was such an inspiring experience, and I got to meet so many amazing and talented people, including Stephanie from Benartex. After a fantastic chat, I’m beyond thrilled to announce that I've been chosen as one of their 2026 Sewcial Star Ambassadors!

This is the first fabric line I have had the opportunity to work with, so I am so excited to go above and beyond!

For my first project, I was asked to make something (ANYTHING) using the fabric line "Dragonfly Wonder" by Ann Lauer for Benartex. This fabric is ABSOLUTELY incredible, and I was so excited that I had the chance to work with it.

As you know, Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) is my focus. So I knew I had to incorporate that into my project. And I knew straight away that I needed to make a dragonfly.

So, I got to work designing and eventually landed on this as my focal block:

Once I had this block created, I began drafting some quilt layouts that combined my FPP blocks.

I originally thought I would do a small wall hanging, so I started throwing out some layout ideas:

But I didn't feel like any of these really made the fabric stand out. So then I decided, I need to go bigger! And this layout was born:

I love that it allows me to use a several fabrics from the line, including some of the bigger prints. But also allows my dragon flies to really pop!

Once I nailed down the pattern (which turned out to be 93" x 93"!) I got to work!

Surprisingly, this was a fast and easy sew! I sometimes like the combination of FPP and Traditional piecing to really speed up the process. I did make the dragonfly blocks AND the Squares in Squares blocks all paper pieced. While most people may want to traditionally piece the squares in squares blocks, I just find FPP so much more precise and easier.
